Description / 1869-S $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle PCGS XF40 (CAC)

Introducing the 1869-S $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle, graded XF40 by PCGS and verified by CAC. This rare and highly sought after coin was minted in San Francisco and features an Old Reverse design, also known as the "Hub of 1840-1858".

The 1869-S Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is a scarce date and extremely rare above the EF grade. Out of 62 auction appearances in our 226 catalogue auction survey, only 10 pieces were graded AU or Unc. by the cataloguers. Most specimens of this date tend to be bluntly struck and lack detail on the hair around liberty's face or on the eagle's right leg and neck. Nonetheless, the rarity of the coin is what makes it extremely valuable and sought after by collectors.

In fact, the 1869-S is probably a hundred times rarer than any late date quarter eagle in uncirculated condition. This means that the 1869-S, like many other quarter eagles, is grossly undervalued, particularly in choice condition. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting out, this is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of history that is both rare and valuable.

With a population of only 19 recorded examples and 131 higher graded specimens, the 1869-S is an incredibly exclusive find. Its value only increases when considering the rarity of the coin in its pristine condition. If you were to attempt to buy a half dozen choice 1869-S quarter eagles, you would likely come up far short of your goal, even if price were no object.

In summary, the 1869-S $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle PCGS XF40 (CAC) is a rare and highly sought after coin that is a must-have for serious collectors. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of history that is both valuable and scarce.
