1903 Louisiana Purchase/Mckinley Dollar Mounted in a Silver Spoon. That the two Louisiana Purchase gold dollar varieties were sold mounted in stickpins, brooches, and spoons is common numismatic knowledge, but few of those objects survive intact today. This spoon, which still contains its 1903 Louisiana Purchase/McKinley dollar (excellent condition), is thus of great interest. The front of the handle has a vignette of bison, riders, a covered wagon, and a train, flanked by the dates 1803 and 1903, while the bowl has a building, captioned FESTIVAL HALL AND CASCADES, the gold dollar mounted below. The date 1904 at the top of the handle and STERLING below. The handle reads horizontally: OFFICIAL / W.B. Stevens, Secy. / LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION / ST. LOUIS. Between bowl and text is a stylized LE and in small font, COPYRIGHTED / 1902 BY / BERT / BALL. Check out all the great US Coins, Currency, Ancients, World and Exonumia at Sarasota Numismatics. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about this or any of our other extensive offerings.
