Description / 1775 May 10, $30 Continental Currency Set PMG CU63/62 CC-10/CC-10CT Pair
Presenting an extraordinary piece of early American monetary history: the 1775 May 10, $30 Continental Currency Set, meticulously graded by PMG at CU63 and CU62. This set includes a high grade original note as well as the British Contemporary Counterfeit. This coveted CC-10/CC-10CT pair, a hallmark exemplar of Revolutionary-era numismatics, offers a rare glimpse into the financial foundation of the United States and is an indispensable addition for both dedicated numismatists and passionate collectors of American history.
Minted during the fervent years of the American Revolution, this set represents a period when the Continental Congress, striving for independence, issued paper currency to fund the struggle against British rule. The designation of $30 was among the higher denominations, reserved for substantial transactions of the time, underscoring its historical significance and economic impact. The engravings reflect the era's artistic sensibilities, combining bold, patriotic imagery with intricate detailing, making each note a masterpiece in its own right.
Newman 1.1: Engraved. Plates cut by Henry Dawkins. This is the first instance of this innovative type of economic warfare.
On the face: In the text, the top of the R in THIRTY is open. The baselines of DOLLARS and Value slant down to the right. The period after 1775 is too low compared to that on the genuine bill. Note that it is below the top of the lower curve of the 5 instead of partially above that curve. In the motto, CIES of FACIES is closer to the outside circle than to the inside circle.
On the back: The AR in DOLLARS does not touch at the very top. The ship in the distance in the right vignette does not touch the sun's rays. The last s in Sellers slants much too far to the right.
With the prestigious certification of the Paper Money Guarantee (PMG), a globally recognized authority in third-party currency grading, this pair is assured for its authenticity and condition. The CU63/62 grade attests to its superb state of preservation, highlighting the careful maintenance that has allowed these notes to withstand the test of centuries.
