Important and Extremely Rare ‘Legal Currency’ Type Postage Stamp Envelopes. Harlem & N.Y. Nav. Co. Sylvan Shore and Sylvan Grove. 25 CENTS LGAL CURRENCY. Very Fine. Hinged. PE311 KL 195-25. Yellow paper. Title top. Across, LEGAL CURRENCY/25 CENTS/ Bottom, Stamps and Envelopes Sold at the Office. Extremely important transportation issuer and used for fares. There are a few known from the issuer to our knowledge, with at least two different styles. The Boyd collection envelope was a 25 Cents on green paper with different obligation. Thus fascinating envelope came from the Western Reserve family of envelopes and brought a significant and worthy $7,475.00 realization. Clearly banknote related and a key piece. A coveted envelope that in 1998 catalogued for $850.00, the second highest in that Standard Catalogue. Lower right hole which should have served a purpose. Two hinges on verso.
